Née à Reykjavik, en Islande, Klara Gunnlaugsdóttir-Lucas vit en Bretagne depuis 2000.
La peinture de Klara, faite de "matière" (sable, pierres, gels) nous entraîne dans l'atmosphère de son Islande natale, mêlant neige et feu, lumière du ciel et noirceur de la lave. Son univers se situe, le plus souvent, à la frontière de l'abstraction et de la figuration.
Parfois, la lettre est présente dans ses toiles. Le mot apparaît alors comme un lien entre deux cultures, entre deux univers qui, chez cette artiste, se rapprochent jusqu'à fusionner. De son travail se dégage une harmonie étonnante, un calme et une sérénité évidentes...un peu comme lorsqu'on regarde la mer des côtes de Belle-Ile ou lorsqu'on se trouve perdu dans les sauvages immensités islandaises.

Les peintures de Klara, une artiste islandaise sont particulières. Depuis un certain temps je suis son travail et ses capacités de création sont très intéressantes par son innovation aussi bien que dans la manière de traiter son œuvre.
Dans sa peinture on sent tout le mystère de son Islande qu'elle traduit avec sensibilité. La force du feu et de l'eau s'y perçoit comme une plainte, comme un cri et c'est beau.
Elle est une artiste d’avenir et son œuvre doit émerger rapidement pour dépasser ses propres frontières.

Klara Gunnlaugsdóttir-Lucas born in Reykjavik, Iceland, has been living and working in Britany, France, since 2000.
Klara's paintings are made of different “materials”, for example sand, stones, and gels mixed with acrylic, and lures us into the atmosphere of her native Iceland, mixing together snow and fire, the light from the sky and the blackness of the lava fields. Her universe is, mostly, at the frontier of the abstract and of the figurative. Sometimes letters are found in her paintings. The word then appears as a link between two cultures, between two universes which, in the hands of this artist, are brought together to the point of fusion. An astonishing harmony exudes from her works, a distinct calm and serenity… a bit like when looking out to the sea from the shores of Belle-Ile or when one finds oneself lost in the wild endlessness in Iceland.

The paintings by Klara, an Icelandic artist, are special. I have followed her work for some time and her creative potential is very interesting in its innovation as well as her way of treating her work. Through her painting one can sense all the mystery of her Iceland which she expresses with great sensitivity. The power of fire and water is perceived in it as a complaint, as a cry and it is beautiful.
She is an artist of the future and her works must emerge rapidly in order to reach beyond her own frontiers.
